What Is Quercetin?
Quercetin is a natural compound that's found in different foods such as onions, berries, apples, or even kale. Now, quercetin is really well known for its anti-inflammatory properties as well as antioxidants, but that's not all you need to know.
So here are three really powerful ways that Quercetin can support your health.
Quercetin Supports the Immune System

Number one, quercetin supports our immune system. Quercetin actually helps to regulate our histamine function and our immune response. This makes it really popular for if you have seasonal allergies. To use quercetin to reduce the symptoms that you get, and in general, really helps our immune balance more. Specifically, Quercetin helps to stabilize our mast cell. This means that it helps to reduce the way that the cell breaks open and releases the histamine. So by using quercetin, you can calm down the symptoms of itchy eye, sneezing, or even runny nose. And Quercetin actually directly inhibits our histamine release acting very similarly to over the counter antihistamines, but doesn't provide any of that drowsiness.
So it helps to reduce the histamine overload, which is often left behind by allergy symptoms or even food intolerances. Quercetin helps to reduce our immune activity and helps to support autoimmune issues and even chronic inflammation. Quercetin also helps to enhance our antiviral and our antibacterial function. It does this by supporting our white blood cells and regulates our cytokine function.
Quercetin Fights Oxidative Stress and Inflammation
Number two, Quercetin also helps to support our oxidative stress and fights our inflammation. Quercetin is a powerful antioxidant that helps to reduce cellular damage and chronic inflammation, which we can see if we struggle with things like heart disease, autoimmune disorders, even aging. It does this by inhibiting key enzymes and signaling certain molecules that drive these systems specifically by reducing inflammation. Therefore, it reduces the production of inflammatory cytokines, helps to calm low chronic low grade inflammation, and can help support issues like arthritis, gut issues, and even autoimmune disorders.
So because Quercetin is such a powerful antioxidant, it also helps to support our oxidative stress. Oxidative stress happens when there's an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants. So quercetin not only neutralizes our free radicals, but it also supports the health of our mitochondria, which is the energy center of our cells, and it has the ability to prevent or reduce oxidative stress issues that can arise in the way of heart disease, cancer, or even cognitive decline.
Quercetin May Support Gut and Brain Health
And number three, quercetin may support our gut health and our brain health. Early research is showing that Quercetin can support our gut lining and support our brain function by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. So quercetin is a very powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, which we need plenty of in our body.
How to Use Quercetin Effectively
If you struggle with seasonal allergies or even food intolerances, the use of quercetin is often seen with people with seasonal allergies.
I have a lot of clients that are always looking for another alternative to antihistamines, and Quercetin does a really nice job. I'm going to link a Quercetin supplement below where you can explore that further if you're interested. It's always worth giving a try.
I think if you're going to use it for seasonal allergies, don't start it in the middle of allergy season. It's best to begin Quercetin maybe a month before that allergy season hits for you. That way, you're more protected. And if you want to try using it for food intolerances, you would want to take it with the meals that you're consuming and to help to support that histamine reaction you may feel. And Quercetin is widely known.
I hope that this helps you learn a little bit more about how Quercetin helps you and why it helps you. And if you have questions, please leave them down below. But as a reminder, I will link a supplement where if you feel like you want to explore it, it's an awesome one to begin with. And of course, always share any of this information or our video channel to others that might be interested in various supplements and just need to feel a little bit more educated.
