What Is Tart Cherry Juice?

So tart cherry juice. Now, not necessarily a supplement, that is what this whole channel is about. It's just about different types of supplements, but sometimes using foods that are actually in our refrigerator can be beneficial just as much as a supplement.

So tart cherry juice is really a beverage that's been made through extracting the juice of the specific cherries that are sour and tart cherries. These cherries are very high or rich in antioxidants, anthocyanins, which give them their bright red color.

Now these cherries are particularly rich in antioxidants as well as anthocyanins, which give them that really bright red color or deep rich color. And this also helps to contribute to the anti-inflammatory properties of this cherry. Now tart cherry juice is commonly consumed as a health supplement. You can find tart cherry juice in liquid or juice form as well as even in capsule form.

Key Health Benefits of Tart Cherry Juice

So despite the form that you decide to use, what are some of the benefits of tart cherry juice? One of 'em is going to be the sleep benefits.

Supports Better Sleep

Now, tart cherry juice is very rich in melatonin and also the amino acid tryptophan, both that are very popular for regulating or sleep cycles and really improving the quality of our sleep. Studies even show that by consuming tart cherry juice, it improved or increased the melatonin in the participants, which led to a more deep and longer sleep.

Tart Cherry Juice and Inflammation Relief

Another great benefit of tart cherry juice is going to be a reduced inflammation and the support of recovery. So because tart cherry juice really contains powerful antioxidants and those anti-inflammatory compounds, it helps to reduce our inflammation and even muscle soreness.

So thinking if you are, let's say you're lifting a lot of weights at the gym and you want to kind of reduce that muscle soreness from a good lift, you and what we call delayed onset muscle soreness, maybe taking in some tar cherry juice will help to reduce that soreness.

Also, reducing inflammation within the body is always going to be beneficial, and we always talk about inflammation in the gut and how that can really create a lot of symptoms for people. So tart cherry juice may work in reducing that inflammation.

Supports Brain Health

Now beyond the support of getting better sleep, reducing inflammation, tart cherry juice also may support our brain health. And how it does this is that by improving the antioxidant defenses, it helps to reduce the oxidative stress. And so this can very much help to keep your brain healthier, keep it more appliable, all the things that we want because we want to keep those oxidative stress factors out of our body.

Boosts Immune Function

It also supplies and supports our immune system. It's high in vitamin A and in vitamin C, as well as all those antioxidants. So it's going to really help support our immune system.

May Reduce Gout and Improve Mental Skills

And regular consumption has been even linked to fewer gout flareups and improve mental skills in some studies. So if you have a lot of inflammation in your body, of course, I've already said this, having tart cherry juice can bring down that inflammation, which can show up as well in gout. And then obviously more improved mental skills being, having a better mental clarity coming up with words more quickly.

Gut Health Benefits of Tart Cherry Juice

So it's kind of a wide range of benefits that tart cherry juice has that you may have not thought of before. Now, just to touch on gut health in particular, tart cherry juice can be very helpful in reducing, as I said, inflammation. The way that it can help do this is through those rich polyphenols and the natural compounds with antioxidant anti-inflammatory properties. So it helps to reduce gut inflammation and even acts as a bit of a prebiotic to our flora. So supplying our flora of our microbiome with a little bit of fertilizer, so to speak.

How Much Tart Cherry Juice Should You Take?

So with the many benefits that are found with tart cherry juice, you may be thinking, well, I might as well give it a try. How much do I take? And so there is specific dosing of how you can take tart cherry juice. As I said, it does come more in the liquid form as a juice, or you can take it in capsule form.

Now, to really get the benefits of tart cherry juice, you need typically two eight ounce drinks of tart cherry juice a day. I mean, it's a little bit higher in carbohydrate, but you just it in within your day. And that can help reduce some of this help you sleep, as I said about the melatonin and also the benefits of bringing down inflammation in the body and supporting mental health. So the dosage for the juice is, like I said, two 8-ounce bottles a day.

If you take it in capsule form, which may be something you feel like would be easier for you, you can take about 200 milligrams of tart cherry juice a day in capsule form. So these are both going to be ways that you can easily add in something that's very natural and see if those benefits of tart cherry juice work well for you.
